About The Department

The department of Physics was established in 1956. Since the inception of Orissa Institute of Technology, Burla (Formerly University College of Engineering, Burla) the department is contributing to the academic and administrative development of this institute. At present the department is catering to teaching of Physics at Ist year level and Physics of Semiconductor Devices at IInd year electronics Engineering students. Apart from teaching research in various fields is going on in the department. Six persons have completed their Ph. D work in the department. Currently, faculty members have started activities in a variety of cutting edge technology and multidisciplinary thrust areas of Physics, particularly in the broad area of theoretical nuclear physics and experimental condensed matter physics. The department aims to offer various elective courses for both B. Tech and M. Tech in specific topics on emerging areas of science and technology in near future.

To provide knowledge of physics to all class of people.
To setup and develop state-of-art laboratories for teaching and research.
To Create an interdisciplinary research environment in the institute.
To promote the knowledge of physics by organizing seminars, conferences in the Frontier areas of science and Technology
