"Education is fundamental for achieving full human potential, developing an equitable and just society, and promoting national development" - NEP 2020

As per the guidelines of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, VSSUT-Burla has constituted a Universal Human Values (UHV) Cell on June 24, 2025 with the aim to inculcate human values amongst students. To impart value based education to the students, the University has adopted AICTE’s Model Curriculum of UHV and offers mandatory courses on UHV. Introductory course on "Universal Human Values" is imparted to the UG students as a part of their induction program.

Vision

The purpose of education is to establish right understanding in the human being. Universal Human Values is an initiative to help the students see the need for developing a holistic perspective of life through self-exploration.

Mission

The mission of the cell is to integrate value-based education into the university’s academic, co-curricular, and administrative activities. To develop and promote an integrated ethical, social, and holistic humane education.

Why Universal Human Values

The purpose of education is to establish right understanding in the human being so that by a certain age, the individual is able to gain clarity about happiness and the programs to ensure it. The process that enables a human being to lead a happy life in continuity regardless of region, caste, creed, gender, race, etc. is termed as universal human education. Such an education will lay the foundation of an undivided society and universal human order, that will meet the holistic education keenness of all human beings.

Objectives

  • Foster holistic development of students– Promote the balanced development of intellectual, emotional, and social skills in students. Encourage an environment that nurtures not only academics but also prepares students for meaningful contributions to society.
  • Cultivate respect and inclusivity– Develop a culture of respect and inclusivity where diversity is celebrated and every individual feels valued. This includes sensitivity to different cultural backgrounds, religions, languages, genders, and socioeconomic conditions, reinforcing unity in diversity.
  • Encourage ethical and sustainable practices– Instill an understanding and practice of ethical principles and sustainability in all areas of learning and research.
  • Promote social responsibility and community engagement– Engage students in community service and outreach activities that develop a sense of responsibility towards the welfare of society. Encourage projects, internships, and volunteer opportunities that directly contribute to local and global communities.
  • Develop critical thinking and reflection– Encourage critical thinking and self-reflection as foundational tools for personal growth; understanding and promoting well-rounded meaningful education experience.
