Burla is situated on the foothill of the Hirakud Dam (the world’s longest earthen dam).It is well connected to all the big cities of the country through railway route. It is forty minutes’ drive by NH6 from the nearest Jharsuguda (JRG) airport, three and half hour drive from Raipur(RPR) airport and a five-hour journey from state capital Bhubaneswar(BBI).
With the opening of the Veer Surendra Sai airport at Jharsuguda(JRG), which is just a 45 minutes drive from the university, this is the most direct route to VSSUT, Burla from major cities. Also, the university is 3 1/2 hours’ drive from the Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur (RPR) and a 5 hours’ drive away from the Biju Patnaik International Airport , Bhubaneswar (BBI) .
Burla is connected by rail through the following stations :
Sambalpur is connected to Bhubaneswar over a 5 hours journey by the train; the Puri-Sambalpur intercity (via Bhubaneswar) and the Bhubaneswar-Bolangir intercity (via Sambalpur) runs daily connecting Sambalpur to Bhubaneswar.
Sambalpur is connected to the NH-6 that runs between Surat and Kolkata and connecting cities like Raipur, Durg, and Nagpur etc. The state capital Bhubaneswar is about 280 KM along the NH-6 and NH-42.
